Perhaps no other custom reveals our nation’s original character as clearly as the celebration of Thanksgiving Day. A Christian once visited a farmer to talk to him about Christ. “I wouldn’t come to church up there,” the farmer said. “I know old so and so church goer who claims to be a Christian, and so and so who attends church there who claims to be a Christian and they don’t live any differently from me. Out on the internet, I keep seeing people writing about “strong” faith and “weak” faith Christians. Each time I read about it, I consistently find people talking about weak faith Christians being those that say “You shouldn’t do this or that.” They’re typically described as “legalists.” On the other side, “strong” faith Christians?mainly the ones writing these articles, and therefore describing themselves–are those that say “I have liberty in Christ, so I can.” In the “weak” faith circles,...

A church-goer wrote a letter to the editor of the newspaper and complained that it made no sense to go to church every Sunday. “I’ve gone for 30 years now,” he wrote, “and in that time I have heard something like 3,000 sermons. But for the life of me I can’t remember a single one of them.
